8 pgs., This issue features several articles concerning the recent fighting in Maryland, leading up to the bloody battle of Antietam (fought the next day). The battle of South Mountain is covered in a great story, as is the fighting around Harper's Ferry. The center of the front page is devoted to a lengthy list of the casualties suffered by the Northern forces at the battle of South Mountain, giving the soldier's name, regiment and the nature of his wound. There are several other articles pertaining to the prosecution of the war, including an obituary for General Jesse L. Reno, who had just been killed in action and a sword presentation to Admiral Foote by the citizens of Brooklyn.

This paper is in very fine condition, with very minor foxing throughout and some light staining on the last page. Minor chipping along left edge when it was removed from a bound volume.
